hugging you

Well, it's officially been a month since I've been on my own!

While the distance has gotten easier, there are still days when my heart aches for home. Today is one of those days. But, I won't let the sadness get in the way of me enjoying my time here! Probably!!
Since I've been here, my parents and I have skyped at least once a week (sometimes twice, sometimes thrice!) for an hour or so. I have seen glimpses of my brother, nothing of my sister (missing dat face), and of course, I force my parents to pick up Chewie (our dog) so I can see him. It always feels nice at the time to see them but once they're gone, my heart is a lil sad. There are only so many hours of the day I can talk to them and to my friends and I think that's what makes this especially hard. When I wake up, they're going to bed and when they wake up, it's evening already for me. But we're making it work! And I have some friends whose sleep schedule is whack (you know who you are <3 )so I get to talk to them in my mornings despite it sometimes being past midnight for them. I don't just miss talking to them, however, I miss just being in their presence.

On a more exciting note, I have a few trips planned! Two weekends in Amsterdam (I'm seeing a concert on March 11th and then I'm going back to 'dam on the 17th with a friend who will be showing me around Rotterdam on the 18th!), probably going to do some weekend trips organised by ESN/ISN (the international students network) and then to Berlin in May! When I think of all the things that are going on, it makes the time here seem a lot shorter, which is bittersweet. I also have a 3500-word ethnographic research paper due in a month and 1500-word book review! Hooray! I love final papers!! (brb dying). When I was waiting to leave on exchange, I was actually starting to miss doing schoolwork so I don't mind going to classes and doing readings. I enjoy school actually as it fills up some of my days! My calendar is starting to fill up and I like that.

I think February was hard not only because I was still trying to figure out my way around here, but also because of the horrible weather. The weather is finally starting to warm up here and the rains are on the way! I'd much rather deal with rain than freezing winds and below zero temps so I welcome it. Hopefully, it stays this way for a bit. While rain can be annoying, walking around feeling like my face was gonna freeze in whatever expression I was wearing was even worse.

Stay tuned for more posts! I have one written already about what I've been eating and stuff. I am trying to do what I said I'd do before coming here: writing one post a week. CAN I DO IT? WE SHALL SEE!

okay bye,
