in love

a love poem? maybe?

in love

i am in love with the

sun, the way it colours the

sky as the earth spins on

its axis. i am in love with the changing

colours of the leaves, the way

they mark the passing of time

with splashes of orange and red

as far as the eye can see. i am in love

with the rain, the way it leaves

puddles to jump in and an

excuse to cozy up by a fire.

i am in love with the fog, the eeriness of

the Unknown,

the way it shrouds the city leaving

only the tops of buildings visible.

i am in love with being held,

the way it’s comforting and safe

and warm and intimate. i am in love with

closeness, the way i can trace

my fingers up and down your body,

absentmindedly. and i am in love with you,

the way you make me feel at

home and at peace.

but you, you are not in love with me.

the (mis) representation of Asians in Hollywood

This May, Asians across the globe will be celebrating Asian Heritage Month, more commonly known in the USA as AAPI heritage month.   This felt like the right time to rehash one of my favourite essays that I had the opportunity to write while in university about the misrepresentation of Asian Americans (and Asians in Western societies) in media.
